In 2008, the first NATT chapter was formed in Minnesota in an effort to reach out to the local community through educational forums, support groups, partnerships with providers, industry representatives and the legislature.
The local chapter operates under the guidance of a board of directors and a chapter director. We are also forming a Medical Advisory Board (MAB) who will be available to speak at educational events and community organizations and will also write informative articles for the NATT-MN website.
Local activities include:
Monthly Support Group: An environment for patients, family members and providers to learn more about blood clots and clotting disorders and a safe place to share personal experiences. The support group is on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Wilder Center in Saint Paul. Please see our flyer for the monthly educational topic and location in the News & Events section.
NATT – MN Walk: We are excited to be launching the first signature NATT Walk on May 15, 2010. Planning is currently in progress. If you would like to help plan or support the walk, please contact the chapter director, Chris Pulkrabek (cpulkrabek@stoptheclot.org)
Stop the Clot® Forums: This spring, NATT-MN will host two Stop the Clot® educational forums. One is being planned in the Twin Cities and another for Rochester. To sponsor or to be an exhibitor please contact the chapter director, Chris Pulkrabek. (cpulkrabek@stoptheclot.org)
NATT-MN is also working on plans for additional events and advocacy issues. We welcome you to contact us to become involved, to donate, to share your personal story or to learn more about thrombosis and thrombophilia.
Here in Minnesota, the Surgeon General estimates that blood clots will strike more than 10,000 people each year, resulting in over 1,700 deaths, most of which are preventable. Information released recently from the Mayo Clinic provides significantly higher estimates for Minnesota, with blood clots striking more than 15,000 people and resulting in over 5,000 deaths.
